BEWDLEY had a mid-innings scare when four wickets fell rapidly, but in the end they took 24 points from their match at Astwood Bank, beating their hosts by two wickets.

Astwood elected to bat and were struggling against Mark Edwards' skill and accuracy. However, it was tom Baylis who took th first two wickets, as Astwood crawled to 25-2

Edwards took his first wicket at 46 and set off a mini-collapse, but Paul Boycott (29) led a recovery to 89-6 before the tail-enders were taken out by Edwards, who bowled 24-5 overs, 10 maidens, and took 6-36.

Paul Beard took three off the first ball in reply before Mark Bennett was lbw to the next. Beard went in the third over and Simon Smith (26) and Jon Bourne (29) had to dig in to take the score to 56. Robert Coombes (13) helped Bourne to 76, but the dismissal of Bourne sparked a collapse and four wickets went quickly. Edwards reappeared and hit 18no.

Astwood Bank 101, Bewdley 102-8.

Bewdley beat Badsey in a friendly at Lower Park, by six wickets with two overs to spare.

Bewdley set a target of 190, largely due to the efforts of Martin Flack, who came in after David Jones went first ball of the second over.

In a stylish 72, Flack had good partnerships with Dean Wilkes (27) and Matt Cowdrey (44no).

Scott Fowler took the first Badsey wicket in the fifth over, with the score on 26, which brought in A Cowley, and he dominated the rest of the innings for 107no. Jack Mills made a good catch in the deep off Andy James, to dismiss opener Westmacott.
