COMMUNITY-spirited folk were invited to imagine a vision to improve Droitwich Spa at an event organised by the Local Strategic Partnership.

Representatives, parishes and public agencies identified some of the needs and priorities for the town and surrounding rural areas, under the titles of improving health, better environment, jobs and opportunities, reducing crime and helping people feel safe.

Top of the lists for action were activities for young people, community health facilities, rural transport and access for older people, community action to improve the local environment.

Wychavon District Council has given a £30,000 handout to help the partnership achieve its vision.

Wychavon's strategy and review manager, Cherrie Mansfield, who helped organise the event, said: "This was a great opportunity for a range of people with knowledge of the Droitwich area to sit back and imagine what it could be like in the future. There was a real buzz in the room. The event helped us capture people's ideas and identify the key priorities."

Manager of the Droitwich Spa and Rural Council for Voluntary Service, Sue Poyner, added: "Now the challenge for the LSP is to turn all the issues identified at the event into a clear strategy for the future.

"We want to put together a plan that will guide the LSP's work and make a real difference to people in Droitwich and the rural areas.

"As well as helping us get a maximum impact from our funds and levering in other cash to the area."
