URGENT action is being taken to stop bikers illegally using a Catshill field and making residents' lives a misery.

A fence, which has been cut, is being used by adults and children on motorbikes, quads and scramblers to get onto the Bromsgrove District Council owned land at the bottom of Milton Road.

People living near-by say their lives are being made a "living hell" by the noise and speeding bikes.

The problem started happening regularly a few weeks ago.

Phil Baker, the chairman of Catshill Parish Council, said the motorbikes were discussed at last Thursday's group meeting.

He said the issue has been brought to the attention of the parish council on previous occasions, when it had advised residents to report any activity to police and maintain a log of the problem.

The parish council has now asked one resident to monitor the site and report back as necessary.

Bromsgrove Community Safety Partnership officer, Graham Rocke, said: "We have met with residents, local councillors and the police to tackle the problem. It is council land and we would remind people they are trespassing and putting themselves and other users of the area at risk by riding their vehicles at high speed.

"We have repaired the fence and are putting up signs to remind people they should not ride vehicles on the land."

Bromsgrove north beat manager PC Spike Jenkins said extra attention would be paid to the area and people would be educated not to use the site. He added that bikes could be seized as a last resort.
