Fairfield Villa 1 Polesworth North Warwick 2
Midland Combination Division One
VILLA'S hopes sunk further into the relegation mire on Saturday as high-flying Polesworth edged them.
Villa, needing all three points to give them a realistic chance of escaping the bottom two in the Midland Combination Division One, produced a spirited fight against their Warwickshire opponents.
However, they lacked the firepower to really trouble Polesworth.
Oliver Miller scored the consolation goal for Villa.
Chairman Paddy Eades said: "We really tried to rattle Polesworth but the difference between the two sides was someone who can find the back of the net.
"If we had a striker who could score goals then we might have had a better season.
"We're in a desperate situation but all we can do is keep fighting to the last game."
Despite losing Villa's closest relegation rivals Newhall United also dropped vital points when they were beaten 3-1 by revitalized Old Hill Town.
