DEBRA Shipley, the Labour MP for Stourbridge, is to leave Parliament to have treatment for breast cancer.

The 47-year-old MP, who was educated at Kidderminster High School, Oxford Polytechnic and London University, worked as a lecturer before she became an MP in 1997.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer six week ago and has been receiving treatment.

She is due to have a double mastectomy shortly.

Her husband, Simon Molesworth, died of cancer last year.

As an MP she has campaigned for improved school meals and brought in a law which created an official list of people unfit to work with children.
