ONCE again, the arrogance of Wychavon District Council was highlighted at the meeting regarding the Lido. It is very obvious that WDC decided long ago that the Lido facility would not be funded by them in its current format.

I believe they have indulged the SALT group by allowing them to come up with a very credible presentation and plan for a modernised facility, all the while knowing that ultimately WDC would send in the bulldozers.

The hypocrisy of WDC is breathtaking. The suggestion that if the people of Droitwich want this facility, then they alone should pay for it, is disgraceful.

I am quite sure that funds generated by the ratepayers of Droitwich have contributed significantly to the Pershore Sports Centre, Pershore's new hospital and to the waterfront development in Evesham.

But Droitwich is having a new Waitrose supermarket paid for by WDC. We can now see that it is a hideous blot on the landscape, in a location that is totally inappropriate, and that very few people wanted it. District councils should concentrate on providing the services that ratepayers require, not looking at everything in terms of profit and loss.

Some services and facilities can only be provided at cost. This is why we pay council tax.

DAVID PERKS,

Droitwich.
