WHEN a superstar celebrity is able to choose where they want to perform from all the venues in the country, Malvern might not be the first to naturally spring to mind.

But for legend Petula Clark, as soon as she heard about the picturesque town she knew she wanted one of her only six performances scheduled in Britain this year to be at Malvern Theatres.

"I was given a list of places where I could play and I knew right away I wanted one of them to be Malvern," said the singer, actress, songwriter and playwright, whose tour of the country coincides with her 60th year of being in showbiz.

"I'm really looking forward to coming to Malvern. It will be my first time and I've heard it's a beautiful part of the world.

"I hope to get there soon enough to be able to take time to take in the countryside and see just how wonderful it is."

Petula's incredible talent first brought her to prominence as a child star during the Second World War and she has gone on to record in excess of 1,000 songs and sold more than 70 million records.

She has appeared in more than 30 films and has graced the musical stage across the world to huge critical acclaim.

The show, which comes to Malvern Theatres on Wednesday, March 9, will include her own hits such as Downtown, Don't Sleep In The Subway, and This Is My Song, plus all her favourites from her Broadway stage hit musicals such as Blood Brothers and Sunset Boulevard.

Tickets cost £17 - £23 and can be booked by calling 01684 892277 or at www.malvern-theatres.co.uk
