A GOLDEN couple who married in February snow 50 years ago will

celebrate their anniversary with scores of friends and family today.

Connie and George Rowberry will mark the milestone at Tolladine Golf Club, Worcester.

Mrs Rowberry moved with her family to Worcester from Birmingham when she was 15. Her family was one of the first to move into the newly built houses on Canterbury Road, in Ronkswood. When her father died, the couple moved in themselves.

"I think it's an amazing achievement to spend 50 years together - not many can say they've made it, and

I wouldn't change George for anything," said Mrs Rowberry.

"We have had our ups and downs," she added, "but you've just got to keep pulling together - I don't believe people who say they have never had a row, but you make up and get on with it."

The couple had a white wedding in a now demolished church on Rainbow Hill. Snow had to be shifted from the church path before the ceremony.

"I would love it if it snowed on Saturday - it would be wonderful," said Mrs Rowberry, aged 72.

Mrs Rowberry worked at the old Ronkswood Hospital, but when she left, she focussed on her knitting, and regularly raises money for charities with her handmade woolly animals. She has just raised £250 for the Acorns Children's Hospice.

Mr Rowberry spent his working life on the railway. His three brothers also followed their father on to the tracks, making it a family tradition.

"George use to love his work before he retired - he was at Shrub Hill for 50 years. He was part of a family tradition by going onto the railway," said Mrs Rowberry.

The Golden couple have three "wonderful" daughters, who call in on them regularly, and three granddaughters and a grandson, who will be on hand to help mark the day.
