Malvern will host two classical concerts as part of a massive international music event.

The performance of Beethoven's complete piano sonatas will involve a series of concerts at venues throughout the UK, Europe and North America over the next two years.

Leading British pianist Paul Lewis will perform the 32 sonatas in eight concerts in the Midlands, including two at the Forum Theatre in Malvern, organised by the Malvern Concert Club.

Other complete performances of the Beethoven sonatas, spanning eight concerts, will take place in London, Edinburgh, Paris, Amsterdam, America and Canada. In total, 72 concerts will be performed worldwide.

Malvern Concert Club has received a £350 grant from Worcestershire County Council's First Base scheme, which supports local arts groups, to help with their participation in the international event.

The first of these special concerts will be part of the concert club's 2005 season and will take place at the Forum Theatre in September.

Arts groups wanting to find out more about grants from the First Base scheme can contact the council on 01905 766337 or email artsenquiries@ worcestershire.gov.uk.
