NEWTOWN hosted Mostyn for the second time in recent weeks giving the management team a headache with a fully-fit squad to pick from.

NEWTOWN SPORTS U16s 4, MOSTYN U16s 2

Newtown were dominant for the first ten minutes but failed to convert chances. Mostyn took the initiative with their first attack and scored from a corner. Five minutes later Mostyn found themselves 2-0 up after some good football. Newtown began to pressure again and won a corner for Cameron McLeod to dispatch his header into the net. Newtown's tails were up and on the stroke of half-time a Reynolds free-kick could only be parried by the keeper for Zikking to pounce and bring the game level at the interval.

The second half saw Newtown carry on in the same vein with some good football in midfield by Reynolds, Pearson and Rogers, who was making his debut. Reynolds produced a 20-yard drive only to be deflected to make it 3-2. Mickey Pearson made it 4-2 after a through ball from Bruce Rogers left him clear to finish clinically from 15 yards with no mistake.

Man of the match was Cameron McLeod.

PERSHORE TOWN U16S 0,

WELLAND JUNIORS U16S 17

THE Mercian League leaders made the short journey to Pershore for their latest league encounter and as the score suggests this was a completely one-sided affair.

Welland totally dominated play from the first whistle and Josh Fernie scored after just two minutes. When Joel Hobbs scored a second and Scott Walker a third within eight minutes it was only a matter of how many Welland would score. Joel Hobbs completed his hat-trick and added a fourth before half-time with captain Joe Waldron making it eight at the break.

Welland made a couple of changes during the interval and continued in much the same vein with busy midfielder Guy Habbitts scoring a well-taken brace along with stout defender Ollie Smith also adding one of his own. Defender Mike Butler scored his third of the season whilst the impressive Joel Hobbs increased his goal tally for the afternoon to six and striker Russell Alderson added a brace. The final goal came from keeper Ashley Bennett who converted a spot-kick.

Man of the match, sponsored by Butlers Health & Fitness was midfielder, was Guy Habbitts.

WELLAND JUNIORS U15s 0,

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U15s 2

MALVERN Town Wanderers once again displayed great team spirit to emerge 0-2 victors in this hard-fought Mercian Festival League game played at the Hill Centre.

The first-half started with Wanderers keeping Welland pegged back and a solid Wanderers' back four of Chris Wynne, Ted Grizzell, Chris Styles and Gary Knight kept the lively Welland forwards under control.

On 35 minutes Wanderers were awarded a penalty after a foul on James Lush and Lewis Hooper calmly stepped-up to score. Wanderers continued to pressure Welland, but, despite some near misses, finished the first half 0-1 up.

The second-half saw Wanderers as strong and determined as they were in the first and their persistence was rewarded on 65 minutes when newcomer Ben White scored a superb individual goal.

In the latter stages Welland hit the post with a shot from hard-working Liam Paddock but they were unable to break down the Wanderers' defence.

WORCESTER RAIDERS 1,

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U14S 13

NEWTOWN Sports Juniors U14s travelled to Perdiswell to play Worcester Raiders .

The Juniors were in dominant form, scoring from the start when Josh Butler lashed the ball past the Worcester keeper from a difficult angle. Newtown pinned Worcester into their own half but despite this pressure it was Worcester who scored next when a Juniors' defender was caught in possession allowing the striker to round Chris Spicer and place the ball into the open net. The Newtown defence of Phillps, Doyle, Clack and May were largely spectators from then on.

Before the break Newtown scored further goals when Danny Robinson lobbed the keeper, Richard Doyle went on a mazy run from the back and drove the ball into the roof of the net, Andy Bannelly scored from a corner and a further two from Butler made the half-time score 6-1.

The second half was all one way traffic and Butler scored a further six times to bring his own tally in the game to nine. Ben Knott completed the scoring, slotting home from close range to bring the score to 13-1.

Newtown are sponsored by Wells Joinery Limited.

Newtown's man of the match was Danny Robinson.

OLDBURY PARK TIGERS 4,

NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U14S 1

NEWTOWN Sports Colts U14s lost their 100 per cent record last Sunday against Oldbury Park Tigers.

Kicking against a the stiff cold wind, the midfield of Powell, Caffull, Jaye, Allison and Edwards defended deeply and were always on the back foot. That said, the defence of Elmes, White and Roskams coped well, however, Oldbury took an early lead when the ball was played across the box, which evaded Johnson in goal and, the striker tucked it away from a tight angle. Oldbury increased their lead when an innocuous ball fell to another Oldbury player in the box who finished it well. Newtown were spurred in to action and scored probably their best goal of the season with a swift and decisive passing move from the back and across both sides of the pitch, setting up Allison to finish cooly past the keeper. Oldbury increased their lead when Newtown failed to clear and a return ball sailed over Johnson. Newtown knew it wasn't going to be their day shortly before half-time, when a goal-saving tackle denied Hale, then Allison hit the bar from the resulting corner.

Newtown had plenty of chances in the second half, but it was Oldbury who grabbed a fourth goal as the Colts pushed on looking for a way through.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U13S 5

CALLOWBROOK SWIFTS U13S 1

THIS was an impressive performance from a confident Malvern side with recent signing Loader again making a great contribution to a hard-working team.

Malvern looked the stronger side throughout though and Callowbrook could only break through the effective back line of Ball, Whittle and Titmuss once in the second half, when their only goal came too late to revitalise a side which was 5-0 down.

In the first half, Harwood opened the scoring for Malvern only minutes into the game with a neatly placed volley into the bottom corner. Asquith quickly followed with a well-taken shot. In the second-half, tireless wingbacks Bakothanasis and Webb pushed play up and a nice Howie pass was firmly finished by Mayo, who had a good game. The fourth goal was a stunning long-range effort from Loader, dipping over the keeper from 30 yards. A second business-like goal from Asquith meant that the team finished with five goals in the bag.

BREDON COLTS 7,

BROMYARD TOWN GIRLS U13S 3

BROMYARD knew that they would face a struggle to get anything out of this game as they had started their season with a heavy defeat away at second-placed Bredon.

Bromyard started brightly in the opening minutes and looked purposeful going forward with captain Clare Almond looking sharp. Clear cut chances though did not manifest and after ten minutes a defensive lapse let in Bredon to take the lead.

Although Town tried to rally worse was to come as their defensive frailties were ruthlessly exposed. Bromyard however were given brief hope when Tasha Merris beat the home side's offside trap to slot past the Bredon keeper and reduce the deficit to just one goal. Bredon immediately retaliated and playing some very neat passing football scored a further three goals prior to half time.

Bromyard showed great spirit and came much more into the game in the second half. Clare Almond scored two very good goals, however, Bredon also scored a further two goals to wrap up a well-deserved victory.

Substitute keeper Sarah Hoffman and defender Charlie Lloyd also gave assured displays.

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U12S 2,

HARVINGTON U12S 2 (AET)

THIS Ron Handy Memorial Shield semi-final encounter was a breath-taking affair with neither side being able to clinch an all important winner.

Harvington opened the stronger but it was Juniors who took the lead when Kyte's long clearance bounced beyond the defence and Turner sprinted through and lobbed the advancing keeper. Within a minute Harvington drew level, Juniors failed to clear and a shot high over the defence and goalkeeper nestled in the net. Juniors showed flashes of their ability but they too struggled to break down a stubborn defence until the last minute of the half. Turner turned the full back inside out and whipped in a cross that Callum Rock bravely met with his head to put the Juniors in front.

The second quickly saw Harvington back on terms Downey latched onto to a loose ball on the edge of the area and his swerving shot was too hot for Kyte. Newtown now started to play some excellent football, prompted by Mike Roskams they created some fine openings and only last-ditch defending prevented a goal. Harvington were still dangerous and Kyte produced a wonder save from close range to keep the sides level.

Extra time was another feast of football and once more Juniors dominated but couldn't unlock the defence.

Man of the match was Joe Kyte.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS COLTS U10S 1, LYPPARD RANGERS PANTHERS U10S 3

THIS was a hard fought game with the home team unlucky not to have scored more.

The first half was tightly balanced, with an early goal from Lyppard quickly matched by a well-placed lob over the keeper's head from Josh Seabourne. Myles Cunningham and Max Howie at the back were effective against some strong attacks from Lyppard and Pete Shepherd's goal-keeping skills completed the defensive strength which held the score 1-1 at half time.

Joel Wright and Stan Mason put pressure on the Lyppard goalmouth in the second half and more shots from Josh Seabourne were only just wide. But Lyppard scored twice more and the home team began to tire though Brent Gibbs and Harry Tawse made every effort to get the ball up the field and Brandon Hudson was persistent in interrupting the opposition's forward play.

WRIBBENHALL WASPS 2,

NEWTOWN SPORTS GIRLS U10S 2

NEWTOWN Sports Girls were seconds away from their first competitive victory, when they conceded an equaliser with the last-kick of the match at Wribbenhall.

In a exciting game, Matthews opened the scoring for Newtown with a shot from almost the half-way line. Matthews-Jones and Mead were terrific in defence, and Davies and Evans assisted Morse well in attack. Jackson, Crocker, Wickett and Fedden all made good contributions as Newtown more than matched Wribbenhall's commitment.

In the second-half, Newtown were against the breeze but continued to play well with the influential McBain adding a second goal direct from a corner, with a little help from a Wribbenhall defender. With the clock ticking down however, Wribbenhall pulled one back when their striker scored a well-taken goal past Houghton. With the match almost up Wribbenhall won a corner and, for the one time in the whole match, Newtown lost concentration and gifted Wribbenhall the equaliser.
