Barnt Green Spartak 1

Bromsgrove Rovers Reserves 2

PAUL FOOTES grabbed a late winner to book Rovers' second string in the final of the Worcestershire Senior Urn on February 23.

With the game going towards extra time at Lye Meadow the substitute striker slotted home Craig Thomas' low cross.

However, the winner came against the run of play, when Barnt Green had ground down Rovers after Warren Sewell had cancelled out Thomas' opener.

Rovers will now meet Alvechurch, who conquered Castle Vale 7-1, in the final (date to be announced).

Spartak manager GJ Singh recalled Alex Lewis and Sewell back into the side, while Rovers boss Dave Connell played Scott Hadland at right back.

With the snow making Lye Meadow's pitch difficult to play on both sides made tentative starts, until Thomas lit up the game with some individual skill in the 14th minute.

The powerful forward tormented Simon Pinfield down the left wing and surged into the box.

Goalkeeper Kenny Sanders could only parry the forward's shot and Thomas stroked the rebound into goal.

Barry Richards should have done better in the 25th minute, but he shot tamely at Sanders after a fine pass from Courteney Walsh.

Spartak did not muster any attacks until the second half, but then applied pressure to youthful Rovers.

Sewell levelled the scores in the 68th minute when he headed in Chris Hanson's cross.

Spartak captain Zahoor Suliman's astute lob was caught by 'keeper Adam Jenkins, before Lewis shot into the side netting after a burst of speed down the left.

But the home side were stunned on the break in the 87th minute, when Thomas powered into the box and crossed for the waiting Footes to score.
