PUBS in Worcestershire and surrounding counties are set to benefit from a £3.5m boost.

Leading pub operator, Punch Taverns, which has more than 100 sites in the county, has earmarked £2m to spend before the end of August. This is on top of the £1.5m already invested in local venues.

"Working in partnership with licensees, Punch has completed a number of major investment schemes aimed at improving facilities and customer choice," said regional operations director David Clayton.

"We are committed to ensuring our estate is second to none when it comes to the quality of amenities for customers.

"Working closely with our retailers in the area, Worcestershire will continue to be an important focal point for investment in our pubs."

One of the larger refurbishment schemes to have taken place recently was a £420,000 project at the Swan Inn, Hanley Swan, near Malvern.

As a result of the investment, the new-look Swan has more than three times its original trading space, and now serves food. It also has new ensuite bedrooms and outdoor recreation areas.

According to Mr Clayton, there are a lot more similar pubs waiting for the right person to take the helm.

"In addition to investing in our pubs, we are always on the look out for new talent to run them and would be delighted to hear from local entrepreneurs with lots of enthusiasm and a flair for their own business."

Punch Taverns is one of the UK's leading pub companies, with 7,800 leased and tenanted outlets.

Among the other pubs owned by Punch Taverns are the Alma Tavern, Cavalier Tavern, Gun Tavern, Lakes, Metro, Northwich Arms, and Slug and Jug in Worcester, as well as The Swan in Hanley Swan and the Hanbury Turn in Stoke Heath.
