THE Doncasters Group, the Midlands-based manufacturer of components for the aerospace industry, has landed the biggest contract in its 226-year history.

The group, which has a facility in Droitwich, has struck a deal worth £160m with US firm Hamilton Sundstrand to manufacture and turbo-machinery for Boeing's 787 Dreamliner.

Using its sites in Europe, North America, and Mexico, Doncasters will manufacture the entire turbine section, all structural components, and most of the compressor components for the auxiliary power unit.

"This contract marks a significant step forward for Doncasters in the North American market," said chief executive Eric Lewis.

Doncasters employs 3,740 people worldwide.
