KIDDERMINSTER Harriers are chasing a striker after completing the signing of experienced centre-half Mark Jackson.

Scunthorpe's former club captain, 27, has joined Harriers until the end of next season and was expected to make his debut at Shrewsbury Town today.

But now the Coca-Cola League Two side's boss Stuart Watkiss is aiming to add a new forward in time for Tuesday's home clash with Bristol Rovers at Aggborough.

Watkiss is in advanced negotiations with the player to boost Harriers' goal power but hopes he has filled the defensive holes in the meantime.

Jackson was an England youth international and played for Leeds in the Premiership before more than 150 games at Scunthorpe.

Watkiss said: "It's no secret our defensive record has been poor this season and we are still making too many errors. That is why I have brought Mark in.

"He was a regular at Scunthorpe for four years until he got injured last season. He knows what the game is about at this level. He was captain at Scunthorpe and is a good leader. We need more characters like that at the moment.

"He's a good, hard defender who doesn't complicate things. I know Scunthorpe were more than happy to keep him for the remainder of the season but Brian Laws appreciated the lad needed to be playing first-team football."
