COLWALL WHC had a dream start with virtually their first attack, Nicky Glover scoring after an interchange with Coral Handley.

STROUD 1, COLWALL WHC 7

Handley set up the second goal for Sam Shail with a cross that was flicked in at the back post.

Colwall's third came from a Jackie Styles run from the half-way line and a cross for Shail to jab in her second.

The opposition then woke up and pressed strongly. They were thwarted by good defending from Laura Entwistle, Lucy Halligan, Mary Wathon and Colleen Rogers, plus several good saves from keeper Carole Ward.

Stroud pulled one goal back from a short corner before half-time.

After a somewhat nervous start, Colwall extended their lead thanks to an excellent goal from Jackie Styles, then a fifth from Handley.

They then scored from a short corner, when Styles swept in the rebound from Glover's shot. The scoring was completed when Handley pivoted in the area to strike her second goal

On the previous weekend, Colwall had started celebrations for the club's 75th anniversary with a match between the its under-30s and the over-30s, which included several former players.

The match was played in an excellent spirit, with the over-30s winning 4-2, helped by the odd extra player and some imaginative umpiring. It was followed by refreshments at the Full Pitcher, Ledbury.

A further celebration is planned for March 12 at the Full Pitcher and former players and anyone else associated with the club are invited to attend.
