IT was good news for Malvern's industrial base on the front page of the Gazette 50 years ago.

"The firm of L G G Charlesworth Ltd, of Sutton Coldfield, will shortly be taking over the premises formerly occupied by the Elephant Brush Company in Worcester Road, Malvern, for the manufacture of machine tools and plastic moulding, it was reported at Tuesday's meeting of Malvern Urban Council.

"The Gazette is informed that although the firm is at present engaged on the manufacture of plastics, it is not yet certain that this work will be continued locally, but it is to be expected that about 50 people (to be recruited locally), two-thirds of them men, will be employed.

"It will be from three to six months before the factory is operating.

"Mr L G G Charleswoth, the managing director, is a great admirer of the district and is taking up residence at Holly Mount House later this month.

"Another result of this move is expected to be that Malvern becomes the firm's headquarters."
