A pre-school group in West Malvern is celebrating after being given a permanent home.

Leapfrogs has been meeting at the Royal British Legion Club, on Lower Road, but has been offered the use of the basement at Raglan House on Westminster Bank.

The building is owned by local composer Paul Farrer, who is developing it as a multi-media centre.

The self-contained space being offered to Leapfrogs will have play areas, kitchen, toilet facilities and a walled courtyard.

Playgroup manager Jane Godfrey said: "We're absolutely thrilled. It's just wonderful news.

"We had approached Paul a little while ago, but then we had to wait while he rebuilt the building. We were expecting a little room but this is even better than what we'd hoped for."

Leapfrogs was established ten years ago and provides care for about 15 children aged two to five, five mornings a week.

Mr Farrer, who composed the theme to TV show The Weakest Link, said he had been approached by Leapfrogs and decided to rework his original plans to give the group a base.

He said: "I just thought it would be nice to give something to the community."

Mr Farrer, who bought Raglan House from St James's School, described the new multi-media centre as being similar to a teaching hospital, housing local media businesses and giving students work experience and vocational training.

It will have recording studios on the ground floor, studio production rooms for animation and video on the second floor and self-contained flats on the third floor. These may be used as accommodation for students at the centre, or as offices.

A car park with disabled access has just been completed and work on the building is expected to be finished by next spring, when Leapfrogs will also move in.

Mr Farrer said: "The whole point of it is to get really good facilities with all the proper stuff. Everyone I've spoken to about it is really enthusiastic."
