IT is with interest each week that I read an article or letter with regards to the redevelopment of the former Ministry of Defence camp North Site in the Malvern Gazette.

I write this letter in the hope of allaying the fears with regards to the perceived traffic congestion if the current proposals are implemented.

I personally started working at the base in 1999. At this time the manning levels at the unit had just started to be reduced. However, there must have been at least 300 personnel working there at this time.

While I appreciate that the drive into North Site is littered with hazards, at no time in the four years that I worked at the base was there ever any traffic congestion on entry in the morning or while leaving in the evening.

As to current concerns, North Site in its heyday must have employed a much larger number of personnel. Is there any historical evidence which could be drawn upon to support the alleged future congestion?

I'm sure the local councils have local concerns as their priority with regards to this development.

I personally would have loved to have seen a Centre Parcs-type facility being built on this site, bringing with it much-needed employment opportunities.
