YOUNGSTERS were getting wet and wild after a day on the water learning to sail and how to handle a kayak paddle.

A group of 130 students from Year Seven of the Elgar Technology College, Bilford Road, Perdiswell, travelled to Upton Warren Outdoor Education Centre over the last week, to learn how to set up camp and get out on the water.

Debbie Band, of the school's IT department, said it was perfect for the youngsters because they were new to the school and it was a great team-building exercise.

"They were in groups over the week, and spent a night camping. They really enjoyed it, even though they got soaked. We have tough kids here," she said.

The college PE teacher, Richard Mills, is leading the week-long exercise.
