A SNAPSHOT of recycling in the Worcester parish of Warndon has revealed a lower than average uptake of recycling.

A recent study showed that only 42 per cent of the households were found to be putting paper and plastics into the purple and clear sacks for the kerbside recycling scheme.

Mike Harrison, the city council's operations manager, told a meeting of Warndon Parish Council on Monday, that the figure for the city was 48 per cent.

He said the challenge now is to encourage more and more households to join in.

But parish councillors pointed out that not all homes were being given the recycling sacks.

"An awful lot of people put their rubbish out collectively, so collectors don't know which houses they have come from, so sacks are not provided," said Ray Morris.

The snapshot was based on nine out of 24 collection rounds carried out on Friday, September 24.
