AFTER missing out in one FA competition, Evesham United embark on another one on Saturday when they visit Ashford Town in the preliminary round.

Again, there's plenty of cash up for grabs with this weekend's victors collecting £1,000 and earning a first round visit to Mangotsfield on November 6 when another £1,800 will be up for grabs.

The Middlesex outfit have fared the best of the former Ryman League sides in Division One West and they currently lie in fourth place, one place and one point better off than the Robins.

Ashford have lost just two of their nine league matches, but Dave Busst's side will motor down the M40 in confident mood despite last weekend's FA Cup exit.

The Common Roaders have yet to taste defeat on the road, having won four and drawn one of their five games on opposition soil.

Last week's 3-1 loss to an impressive Weston-super-Mare side will have given Busst and assistant Paul West plenty to ponder, particularly with regard to his front line.

Jermaine Clarke and Ravi Sangha had to make do with places on the bench last Saturday but both could be in line for a starting spot on Saturday.

Should Saturday's tie end all-square after 90 minutes, a replay will take place at Evesham on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Evesham have set a date for last month's postponed home clash with Thame United and that will take place at Common Road on Tuesday, November 2 (7.45)

The club's youth team did themselves proud in defeat at Weymouth last Wednesday when losing 3-2 in the FA Youth Cup. Tom Wilmot and Karl Scott scored United's goal.
