ELDERLY Wyre Forest residents are being urged to keep their doors locked after a woman in her 80s had her purse stolen by a man pretending to repair burst pipes.

The pensioner found the man in her Shrubbery Street home after hearing a noise last Wednesday afternoon.

He told her there was a burst water main in the street and he needed to turn off her water supply but then ran out of her house into Hurcott Road.

The pensioner later discovered her purse containing cash and various cards had been stolen.

The offender is described as white, 5ft 4ins and wearing black clothes. He had an Irish accent.

Kidderminster police officer, PC Kelly Parsons, said: "We are appealing to anyone who noticed a man of this description in the Shrubbery Street or Hurcott Road area to get in touch."
