FOLLOWING the euphoria of back-to-back wins in the Southern League Division One West, it was back to reality for Stourport Swifts as they collected just a solitary point from a tough Bank Holiday programme.

An impressive Brackley Town were held to a 1-1 draw at Walshes Meadow on Saturday but Dave Titterton's side finished empty-handed as county rivals Bromsgrove Rovers chalked up a 2-0 win on Monday.

And with defensive linchpin Bryan Small hobbling off with a knee injury midway through the derby clash, morale could do with a lift ahead of this weekend's FA Cup trip to Buxton.

Duncan Willetts salvaged a point against Brackley with a dramatic 63rd minute shot that looped over the visiting keeper from 25-yards.

Brackley had opened the scoring after just 10 minutes through Gary Wickens who fired home at the far post from a setpiece.

And it needed some timely interceptions from Jay Powell and Small to deny the visitors a second.

Brackley dominated for long periods of the game but failed to make the most of their possession and they paid the price when Willetts hauled Swifts level.

Swifts (v Brackley): O'Malley 7, Green 7, Small 7, Webb 7, Powell, Jones 7, Lloyd 6, Hayward 6 (Childs 73), Crisp 6 (Atkinson 66, 7), WILLETTS 8, Shirley 6. Subs (not used): Mason, Checketts.

The former Kidderminster Harriers youngster should have been on the scoresheet at Bromsgrove but failed to make the most of a six-yard header that he directed wide early in the second half.

Rovers had already opened the scoring through Arthur Appleton on 38 minutes, the striker netting after Dave Benton had helped on Mark Benbow's corner, but this sparked Swifts into action as they looked for a way back into the game.

After Willetts had missed out with his header, he tried again with a glancing effort but this was saved by keeper Matt Lowe who then did well to keep out a well-struck Paul Lloyd strike.

The best move of the game saw John Shirley and Mark Atkinson combine on the right with the latter crossing for John Hayward but once again the Rovers keeper was up to the task.

Mark Bellingham hit the Swifts crossbar but then made amends two minutes from time with a goal off the far post as the Stourport defence failed to deal with a Dave Benton free-kick.
