STOURPORT'S Chris Morris set a new course record when he stormed to victory in the Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club's hill climb championships on the steep slopes of Shelsley Bea-uchamp on Sunday.

The club rider was in a class of his own as he completed the 1.25-mile climb in five minutes five seconds, improving his own course record, set last year, by 20 seconds, to retain the Birmingham Crescent Wheelers' Me-morial Trophy.

Morris has now held this title for two years.

Kidderminster's Dave Wood improved on last year's third place to finish equal second with Bewdley rider James Smith, both recording 6-05.

Jonathon Higgins was fourth in 6-19, and was followed by Brian Clarke 6-20, Karl Davies 6-22, Nigel Perks 6-59, Dom-enico D'Angelo 7-22 and Richard Pedersen 7-26.

Alan Griffiths, Sue Middup-Jones, Davies, Wood, Higgins, Morris and Pedersen will take part in the Cat and Fiddle Challenge, in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. This 55-mile ride through Staffordshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire and the Peak District, includes the Cat and Fiddle climb, which is seven miles long, and returns over Axe Ede with its 20 degree slopes.

Anyone able to sponsor the riders is asked to contact Pedersen on 01562 632459.
