Meditations, Kidderminster Library, until September 20

VIBRANT colours and contrasting brush strokes allow Paul Langford's thought-provoking art exhibition Meditations to live up to its name.

The Birmingham artist's collection of acrylics and oils on canvas ooze a variety of moods, with cool blues and whites evoking calm and rich reds and ochre yellows generating an oppressive sense of heat.

My personal favourite, Awakening, reminded me of tales of near-death experiences - with an overwhelming white light shining through a tunnel of bright blue.

The piece, which achieves its three dimensional quality through a combination of textured brushstrokes and layering, is typical of the exhibition as a whole in terms of its captivating effect on the viewer.

The accompanying literature also added to the sense that the exhibition actually has something to give the viewer, reinforcing the artist's belief that anyone can meditate.
