A STOURPORT woman has come to the rescue of patients with cold feet at Kemp Hospice by socking it to them - in the nicest possible way.

Mary Landon, of Great Western Way, has been knitting bed socks for Kemp patients who suffer from cold feet and has just clocked up her 100th pair.

The nimble-fingered former theatre sister began knitting the socks after she nursed her late sister-in-law who had been a patient at Kemp.

Mrs Landon said: "Like many patients with cancer my sister-in-law suffered from cold feet but also swollen legs and ankles which meant none of the socks you could buy were suitable.

"After she died I wanted to do something for the patients at Kemp and thought about knitting socks which were comfy and warm."

Mrs Landon, 71, knits the socks to her own design - roomy with a wide ankle and no seam under the heal to avoid causing bedsores.

"They are colourful and the reports are that the patients love them," Mrs Brandon said.

Now in her third year of bed sock production, Mrs Landon, who has just taken 50 pairs along to the hospice, said she could not have done it without the help of customers of Chain Labels in Lombard Street, Stourport, who donated wool.

"I also had help with this year's batch of 50 socks from a lady in Bewdley who knitted 16 pairs," she added.
