POSTERS and videos highlighting issues facing mental health sufferers were due to be on display at a special open day in Worcester today.

The event has been organised to mark today's National Occupational Therapy day and there was also chance to take part in a meditation session lead by Buddhists.

Mental health charity Onside Independent Advocacy were also set to be available throughout the day for those wishing to learn more about the service.

Sam Cox, a Worcestershire senior occupational therapist, said: "It is a great opportunity for occupational therapists to promote their profession which uses the everyday activities of daily life to assess and use as a treatment tool.

"This is particularly important in this service where people's ability to function is influenced by their mental health.

"Occupational therapy helps people to recognise the importance of doing the things that help rebuild their confidence.

The event was taking place at the Adult Inpatient Department in the Elgar Unit at Worcester's Newtown Hospital. For more information call Ms Cox on 01905 763333 extension 33294.
