Bretforton 4, Cirencester 0

THE opening 20 minutes of Saturday's league match proved to be fairly even.

Good work from Sophie Cor-bett, Lisa Workman, Julie Hall and Gilly Wright caused the Cirencester defence a number of problems.

A short corner proved the route to goal for Bret when Deb Slatter picked out Jane Wheeler who scored with a blistering shot.

Bretforton then came into their own in the second half with plenty of attacking play from Wright, Sarah Hall and Andrea Cole and they extended their lead when Workman passed to Cole who slipped the ball for Julie Hall to find the net.

A third goal soon followed with Slatter crossing the ball into the D and it was Cole who pushed the ball under the goalkeeper before being helped over the line by a combination of Hall and Wright.

Some textbook play by the latter pair produced some fine inter-passing that ended with Wright finishing off the scoring.

THE second match of the season saw a well earned win for the local side.

The first half saw excellent positive play by the whole team, while the strong defensive team of Marion Icke, player of the match Kay Amphlett, Sandy Boswell and Jude Edgehill kept the opposition well at bay and served the midfield and forwards with useful balls.

The first goal came midway in the first half when Sarah Bragg strongly delivered a rebound into the net.

Impressive combination play on the left by Vicky Rhodes and Danni Cox provided further space for Bragg to soon turn in her second.

The second half brought several changes in position and a more relaxed atmosphere that led to a period of prolonged pressure by Saints who, despite determined offensive play, were unable to turn their efforts into a goal.

Bretforton managed to wake themselves up and continued the attack and were particularly working the ball around the D well, looking for a way in.

Despite these efforts a third goal wasn't forthcoming and the hosts managed to snatch a late consolation.

Bretforton are at home to Shipton Oliffe this weekend.
