TRADERS in Alcester have been told plans to enhance High Street should be put into action next year.

At a meeting last week, they were shown details of the safe crossing areas proposed, with the most favoured scheme featuring two - one near the church entrance and the other near Barclays Bank.

Representatives from Warwickshire County Council and Stratford District Council attended the Chamber of Trade meeting.

Afterwards, chairman Andy Mills said: "I must admit I imagined this had moved on a lot further but it still seems to be in the discussion stage and the meeting was to get input from the Chamber of Trade.

"We understand the county council has the money for the scheme but unless it goes ahead, the money will go elsewhere.

"Most of the members have welcomed the plans but we are hoping the crossing places will be marked by road texture changes rather than large bumps, which would cause problems for emergency services and noise for residents."
