AT the September 28 meeting, Diane Dodge, accompanied by her golden retriever Jago, gave a talk about the charity Dogs for the Disabled.

Diane began with a brief history of how the charity came about and how, with the help of a lottery grant in 1990, it really took off.

She described how dogs are trained to put washing in machines, pick up dropped items, fetch the telephone and many more helpful tasks.

She said Jago was her best friend and constant companion as well as giving her back her independence since being disabled.

Jago was extremely well behaved and sat patiently throughout the whole evening.

Her talks are a good way of drawing attention to the charity at The Francis Hay Centre, Blacklocks Hill, Banbury, which is open to the public once a month for anyone interested in paying a visit.

Joyce Berry won the raffle.

The next meeting at Alcester Methodist Church on October 12 at 8pm includes a talk by Nick Dearling on Alcester/Vallet Twinning Association.
