THE practice manager of Woodrow Medical Centre has hit out at security in the area after the centre was burgled for the second time in 12 months.

Computers storing some patient information were stolen during the latest burglary, which happened between 8.50pm on Thursday, September 30, and 8am the following day.

Raiders broke in and stole a quantity of computer equipment, including five flat-screen monitors, three hard drives with keyboard, a mouse and a CD midi system.

Practice manager Julie Haresign said: "Security in Woodrow Shopping Centre is dreadful. We've had two break-ins within 12 months and often have windows smashed.

"These people even unplugged our phone lines, which they had no reason to do. Patients trying to call overnight wouldn't have been able to get through.

"We're so grateful to the Primary Care Trust, which stepped in with replacement equipment to be used on a temporary basis so we could carry on helping patients."

She stressed patients should not be overly concerned about the stolen hard drives as there was little information stored on them and the burglars did not take the main server.

Pc Ian Martin said: "It's very concerning when items storing personal or sensitive information go missing and we're appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

"The area around the centre is always busy and someone may have seen or heard something that may be connected.

"Equally, anyone offered this computer equipment for sale is urged to get in touch.

"New CCTV monitors are due to be installed at the premises shortly and we hope this will prevent this type of incident reccurring."

Anyone with information is asked to contact either Pc Martin or Pc Lane at on 08457 444888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
