DEBUT director DJ Caruso has gathered together an ensemble cast to be proud of for his off-the-wall chiller thriller.

Sadly, the film itself does not quite manage to live up to its actors and will leave you feeling like it just ran out of steam - and ideas - for the last 20 minutes or so.

Big names Angelina Jolie, Ethan Hawke, Kiefer Sutherland and the delicious Olivier Martinez all step up to try to make the best out of a plot which is at times convoluted, at times transparent and at times, completely bizarre.

And to be fair, they are all intensely watchable as their characters become entwined in the hunt for a serial killer with a penchant for killing people and literally taking over their lives.

Jolie brings brilliant humanity to her role as Illeana Scott, an FBI agent who specialises in quasi-psychic techniques to trap psycopaths.

She is almost hypnotic to watch as she becomes involved professionally and personally with an innocent witness to one of the killings - or is he?

Ethan Hawke plays his role with an ambiguity that keeps the audience gueesing for a while and Kiefer Sutherland, although his role is small, is nevertheless a bit of a scene-stealer.

This isn't a complete write-off but the three stars are really just for the cast. SC
