NEW furniture in the mayor's parlour has impressed members of the town council.

Droitwich Spa town councillors sneaked a look at the new table and chairs in the mayor's office of St Richard's House.

"I think it has lifted the room," said the Mayor of Droitwich, Councillor Anne Taft.

And other councillors gave it the seal of approval at last Monday's community and amenities committee meeting.

Labour Cllr John Cook said: "It like it. I am impressed, it is becoming of the parlour."

The old furniture has been moved into the council chamber until a buyer can be found. The money from the sale will go towards buying new chairs for the council chamber. Members of the committee also discussed various choices of new chairs. However, they all came to the conclusion none of the current options were suitable for the room.

Cllr Taft said: "I don't think the seats are appropriate for the room that we have got here. We have got a very nice room and rather than rush the decision I think we should look for furniture, which will be in keeping with its style. I would rather research it some more."

Referring to the current options, Cllr Kate Spencer added: "I would agree. This is just office furniture."

Liberal Democrat Cllr Graham Gopsill suggested the town council take a look at some catalogues he receives from Dutch furniture makers. "They make antique style chairs which retail at not much more than we are already looking at," he said.

The matter was deferred to a later meeting.
