VISITORS to a pantomime performed by a new Bromsgrove theatre group will not be hacked off at the reality of the performance, writes Chris Flavell.

The All and Sundry theatre group has utilised the skills of a swordsman to teach the cast how to sword fight using real swords.

The new skills will be demonstrated at the group's performance of King Arthur in November.

Simon 'Raph' Aldis - an up and coming stage and screen fight arranger, has joined the group and is helping prepare the cast for the performance in the Spadesbourne Suite, in Burcot Lane, on November 18, 19 and 20.

Raph has been running workshops for cast members, including Gemma Batty and Dave Berrisford, who play the parts of Lancelot and Mordred respectively, to teach them the techniques of swordplay.

Paul Vollans, chairman of All and Sundry, said: "The sword fighting has really brought the panto to life, I have been very impressed. The cast have welcomed the addition and it really gives the play another dimension."

Swordsman Raph said: "It is really good fun. The cast have picked up the techniques extremely well. This is down to the fact that they are a very enthusiastic group and great to work with."

Following on from the sword workshops, director Neale McGrath also gave a slapstick workshop to the cast to give the panto an additional light-hearted feel.

The group also needs a drummer.
