DEAR EDITOR - I am one of the many Yew Tree Hill residents angered by the sight of the neighbouring water tower covered in mobile phone masts.

So I must praise the suggestion by our district councillors of a practical alternative. Their town centre tower, disguised as a clock, with a large glass fibre spire, is hiding the highest power transmitter available and will make all other masts littering our town redundant. The glow at night will become a beacon, drawing tourists to our town on dark winter days.

That a leading councillor and a retired nuclear power station designer are heading the project team assures success.
