Yardley 1

Redditch 4

REDDITCH men's hockey team's bid for the title is still on course after a 4-0 drubbing of an ageing Yardley outfit.

The men began their attempt on the title last week but were held to a 4-4 stalemate at home to Walsall.

However, there was never any doubt in their first away trip of the season.

After a goalless first half Redditch took the lead as Tom Ricky got on the end of some good build up play.

Two minutes later Yardley had equalised from a short corner but the teams were level for less than five minutes as skipper Andy Brookes smashed in his first of the day.

Brookes made it three soon after through a penalty and Anthony Brookes ended off the rout.

Chris Thomas was man of the match.

Redditch's Tom Hiles said: "The coach said he wanted a clean sheet at half time and that's what we delivered.

"We've been working hard on our fitness and that's what showed through in the end on Saturday."

Next up for Redditch is Barlaston in a high noon start.

Hiles added: "It will be a tough game but we're at home and we usually play better against better opposition."
