Redditch Ladies 3

Redditch Ladies got their winning campaign under way with an impressive away victory against Harborne.

Last week's loss against Stourport was quickly pushed aside as they put the home team under pressure from the whistle.

Redditch's Emma Preston and Olivia Nicholson linked well and threatened to break the deadlock but at the other end goalkeeper Steph Adkins made an important save to keep the scores level.

The breakthrough came midway through the half when captain Jo Stafford deflected a corner strike in from close range.

Shortly afterwards they doubled their lead from an almost identical goal.

Good attacking play had resulted in a penalty corner but initial strike was blocked but Stafford managed to squeeze her shot inside the near post to double the Redditch lead at the break.

Redditch created a number of chances in the second half, but a combination of good keeping and unlucky deflections meant the ladies had to wait for the decisive third goal.

Angela Taylor put the game beyond doubt with an excellent strike from a penalty corner with a 15 minutes go.

Redditch are away on Saturday as they face Kings Heath.
