FOUR weeks of waiting is finally over for Droitwich Spa Cricket Club as they picked up their first piece of silverware in seven years.

The club's Sunday First XI won the Worcestershire Sunday Club Cricket League last month, losing just once in the process.

And last Friday they collected the trophy at the league's awards bash at Worcestershire CCC's New Road ground.

Team captain Martin Woodward was presented with the trophy by former county batsman Stuart Lampitt, now Worcestershire Cricket Board's development officer.

Adrian Field, secretary for the Spa club, said: "It's been really good for morale and it's given the whole club a lift. Martin has been a very good and enthusiastic captain.

"I think it has been successful because we have had quite a few players from the Saturday team playing on Sunday. Everybody has chipped in."

The Sunday success was just part of the wider picture at St Peter's Field as the Saturday First and Third teams were runners-up in the Worcestershire County League Division One and Division Seven respectively.

Droitwich Spa CC stage their annual awards night on Friday, October 15, and collect their county league gongs in Bewdley a week later.
