IT'S a family affair when husband and wife, actors John Alderton and Pauline Collins, together with their daughter Kate star in the world premiere of Richard Harris's Going Straight at Malvern's Festival Theatre from Monday.

Described as "a light-hearted look into a life of crime" the plot concerns Mickey and Ray, two old gangsters supposedly settling into the quiet life of retirement, who get together to talk over old times in Costa Del Sol.

A spokesman explains: "With a film researcher doing a makeshift interview and their wives unsure of the past and each other, the two men aren't quite able to retire gracefully.

"In the tradition of every great gangster story, identities and agendas are questioned - can an East End hard man ever really go straight?"

John Alderton and Pauline Collins are two of Britain's best-loved actors, well known for their respective appearances in Calendar Girls, Shirley Valentine and Upstairs Downstairs.

The cast also features George Costigan, last seen at Malvern in Of Mice and Men in 2002 and Carol Royle with Pauline and John's daughter Kate Alderton completing the quintet.

Going Straight runs from Monday until Saturday, October 16. Tickets, priced £16-£24, are available from the box office on 01684 892277 or online at www.malvern-theatres.co.uk
