NEWLY promoted Whitchurch thrashed Bromsgrove Hockey Club Men's First XI 7-2.

Last Saturday's result condemned Julian Court's side to their second straight defeat of the new West Midlands Division One season following their opening loss to Droitwich Spa.

Whitchurch took control of midfield from the start and the hosts wasted no time in opening the scoring inside a minute.

Clive Robinson brought the side level but it proved to be a false dawn as Whitchurch scored four unanswered goals to lead 5-1 at the break.

A change of formation for the visitors in the second, pushing an extra man into midfield, stemmed the rush of goals and saw Bromsgrove create chances.

Visiting goalkeeper Lee Wickersham was then sent to the sin bin for five minutes after challenging outside the 'D'.

Left back Marcus Dawson donned the helmet and gloves to but Whitchurch added their sixth from the resulting short corner. And they added another while Bromsgrove were still down to ten men.

Bromsgrove, who host Market Drayton this Saturday (1pm), got one back when Mark Robinson converted from a short corner.

Bromsgrove Seconds beat West Bromwich Seconds 4-2. Trailing 1-0 at the break, the hosts secured victory with goals from Ali Shaw, man of the match Ollie Adams, Joel Brace and skipper Simon Clifton.

The Thirds drew 0-0 at Walsall, a point aided by John Lewis' goal line clearance.

Bromsgrove Badgers lost 6-0 at home to Redditch.

The indoor team beat Worcester 5-3 last Wednesday but lost 3-2 against Old Halesonians.
