FAMILIES are being given the opportunity to bag a prized compost bin at a bonanza sale next month.
Worcestershire County Council says the bins have been like "gold dust" ever since it introduced them in April as part of a recycling campaign, prompting as many as 500 calls a day from those wishing to compost.
Two types of bin will be available at a one-off sale at Worcester Rugby Club's Sixways ground, in Pershore Lane, on Sunday, October 24, between 10am and 3pm.
Some of the bins will be completely free of charge while the others will be sold at discount price of £5.
Encouraging
The bins were originally offered as part of the council's Mission Impossible scheme aimed at encouraging residents to reduce the amount of household waste sent to landfill sites.
"Advertisements and leaflets will appear in the press in the weeks prior to the one-day sale," said Amy Bayliss, county council promotions assistant.
"Residents can reserve a bin by calling the reservation hotline on 08708 494864."
County council officers will be on hand during the day to offer advice on eco-friendly products and ways to cut down on the amount of waste produced.
