IT will be a case of all aboard for youngsters in St Peter's who are set to have the use of a double decker bus with a difference to spend their free time in.

Over the summer holidays St Peter's Parish Council funded a host of activities for the young people in the area.

Councillors were so impressed with their behaviour they are planning to extend the funds throughout the year.

One of the ways the council is planning to do this is by providing a double decker bus with computer facilities on the top deck and a chill out zone on the bottom for the youngsters to use two nights a week.

Youngsters have now been invited to meet members of the parish council, together with the city council's assistant community development officer Angie Rich, on Monday night to discuss the bus and talk about the development of a youth group.

Bob Jenkins, clerk to the parish council, said Angie Rich had described the behaviour of St Peter's young people throughout the summer as "exemplary", and a credit to themselves and their parents.

"Because of this we are keen to help fund more activities and we have applied for a £10,000 grant from the county council too," he said.

"We have just secured the use of the double decker bus - we just need to find somewhere to park it now.

"We also want to put the foundations down for St Peter's Teenage Factory youth group which will hopefully be fully fledged by the time we get a new community centre."

Mr Jenkins added that the emphasis was to give the young people fun as well as teaching them life skills such as how to get a mortgage and how to save a life.

"The aim is to turn out young citizens well-equipped for life," he said.
