FARMERS are being urged to register their land where it is considered a problem area in order to simplify action to deal with unauthorised encampments.
Travellers' sites, which traditionally spring up during the summer, can be a serious seasonal problem for landowners, but by using the Land Registration Act, removing trespassers from private property can be made easier, according to FPDSavills.
"Registering allows the owner to prove his or her title to the land and means there can be no dispute in any court proceedings," explained the firm's Adrian Beales. "The Act only came into effect last October so many farmers won't have made us of it yet. While it can't stop trespassers getting onto the land in the first place, it's a simple step landowners can take to make dealing with the problem less stressful."
