A SIGN at the entrance to a recently refurbished car park in Kidderminster town centre has been branded as "sexist" by a district councillor.
Wyre Forest district councillor, Robert Wheway, said the sign at the entrance to Swan Centre's car park - the subject of a £2.4 million makeover - should read "parent and baby" instead of "mother and baby".
The sign is at the Blackwell Street entrance to the car park and directs parents to the second floor.
Mr Wheway, a member for Broadwaters, said: "We are trying to get men to take an equal role in parenting so I think this is discriminatory.
"No woman would accept a sign that said a car parking space was just for men. Men are taking an equal role in parenting and should not be discriminated against."
He said he would write to the Swan Centre management about the "offensive" sign.
Swan Centre manager, Margaret Moon, said: "All of the signage was considered and discussed prior to it being installed and we have received no other complaints. However, if the gentleman would like to contact the Swan Centre management we would be happy to discuss it with him."
