CEMENTING her reputation as a rebellious, angst-ridden, butt-kicking teenager, Ms Lavigne takes no prisoners with her latest offering.

Older, wiser and definitely a whole lot angrier, you really don't want to mess with this feisty 19 year old with a chip on her shoulder and a bright future ahead.

Rockier, harder and with more of an edge than Let Go, Under My Skin even wanders into punk territory at times as she flexes her muscles and lets rip.

And it's nice to know her material is from the heart - she is credited with writing all 12 tracks.

From broken relationships and crappy boyfriends she explores what it is to be a teenager.

The lyrics are mostly downbeat in an Alanis Morissette-esque way and weighed down with the heaviness of teenage love.

But there is still the occasional glimpse of optimism forever associated with youth.

Yes, at times she has the capacity to be a little like Kevin the Teenager, sulking, moaning and whinging about how badly the world has treated her.

But she has achieved something that not many artists have done - she has produced an outstanding follow-up to a brilliant debut album. And that's something to shout about.
