A NEW scheme to help the elderly is being set up and kind-hearted residents are called on to get involved -- and earn themselves a pretty penny while they're at it.

Age Concern is launching a new project to help older folks keep their houses clean and tidy.

"Houseworkers" will clean for the elderly and earn a not-to-be-sniffed-at £6.50-£7.50 per hour. They can do as little or as many hours as they wish.

They will be paid directly by their clients -- although the clients will receive funding from Worcestershire Social Services department.

A potential client for the new scheme is anyone who is over 55 and experiences some difficulties at home but does not yet qualify for a community care assessment from Social Services.

Chief officer of Age Concern Bromsgrove, Keith Sherman, said: "Some people may just want their bathroom cleaning and feel fit enough to do light dusting themselves. Other people will need more help. The idea is to match each client with a houseworker who fits their needs."

If you are willing to give up a few hours a week and earn extra cash helping elderly folk call Heather Day or Mandy Broomfield on 01527 871840.

Or if you feel you may benefit from a houseworker call Age Concern, in Windsor Street, on 01527 871840.
