SPRINT specialist Daniel Bradley helped himself to a treble at the Worcestershire County Track & Field Championships at Stourport.

Bradley, from Kidderminster & Stourport Athletic Club, triumphed in the U15 boys category, winning the 100m, 200m and 400m, clocking up times of 12.2s, 24.8s and 57.2s.

Kidderminster & Stourport, who hosted the event at their Stourport track, produced 16 county champions of their own with the excellent set of results spread over all age categories.

For Worcester Athletic Club, Holly Bradford and Wendy Bennett returned from injury in triumphant fashion, winning golds in the U17 3K and senior ladies 3K race with times of 18m 57.8s and 15:32.8 respectively.

Bradford had been out of action for a year while Bennett had a knee operation in January. Worcester's Mandy Clarke claimed the silver behind Bennett.

Other Worcester winners were Hayley Repton in the U17 women's javelin (20.86m), Edwin Elmhirst in the U15 boys high jump (1.55m) and Dan Jones in the U15 boys javelin (27.48m) ahead of Tom Watts (19.42m).

Andy Poppleton took the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 59.6s.

For Kidderminster the U13 girls trio of Emma Holder, Laura Baldwin and Clare Blakeway dominated the triathlon event finishing first, second and fourth respectively with points scores of 543, 455 and 390 respectively.

Other champions included Charlotte Berrington, who jumped 1.50m in the U15 girls high jump and threw 23.13m in the javelin.

Sarah Dyde was also a double medal winner in the U20 women's discus with a distance of 23.98 while she ran 53.1s to take the 400m.

Dave Hall (senior men 800m and 1500m) and Lee Valentine (U17 long jump and triple jump) were also double winners.

Laura Kyte (U20 Women 1500m), Tom Sparkes (U15 boys long jump), Rhys Pritchard (U20 Men 400m) and James Colclough (senior men 400m) were also on the podium for Kidderminster.

Bromsgrove & Redditch's Matthew Addison won the U20s 800m in a time of 1m 58.3s while Jade Peak took gold in the U15s 100m and 200m building on her recent successes in the Midland Indoor Championships.

Daniel Fagan also landed a sprint double in the 100m and 200m.

Worcestershire ladies team manager Rita Brownlie has high hopes for the pair.

"Jade has got potential, she has a lot of talent and is very keen. The same with Daniel and I just hope they keep going."

However Brownlie admits a low entry rate was a disappointment.

"It's not good, our championship entry was the lowest it has been for a while," she said. "The standard wasn't bad but there just weren't enough entries, some events only had three or four competitors.

"We're hoping that next year that block bookings entries for clubs might improve the numbers.

"But it's not peculiar to our county. There are more and more sports for sports to do when they are younger. Rugby, football - a lot of them do them all and we're having to compete with that."
