WORCESTER Wolves set up a May Day showdown with North West London after an English Basketball League Division Two play-off victory.

The Wolves saw off Westminster Warriors with a 115-58 win at University College, Worcester.

The victory leaves the Wolves with a May 1 date at the NIA for the play-off final and, if they can claim victory, they should be promoted to Division One.

On Saturday, Worcester quickly took control of the game, leaving Westminster trailing by an ever-increasing margin.

The game opened with two unsuccessful offences from Westminster and rebounds from Wolves' Ty Shaw. The Warriors continued to struggle, allowing Worcester to build a 12-2 lead after just three minutes. Worcester's defence prevented the Warriors from getting to the basket, while strong offence from Keith Jarrett extended the lead further. The quarter ended with two points from Shaw, with the Wolves leading 31-23.

Westminster appeared to struggle even more in the second quarter than they did in the first. Soon after the restart, Wolves had extended their lead to 38-23. Westminster found it difficult to break through and by the end of the quarter, Worcester led 59-32.

Worcester continued to dominate the game in the third quarter, with an 18-1 run in the first seven minutes.

James Hurrell -- making his first major appearance -- made his mark with scores and rebounds. A series of fouls and the resulting free throws only added to Worcester's score. The quarter ended with a slam dunk from Hurrell. The score was now 88-39 to Worcester, with Westminster's prospects looking increasingly bleak.

The Warriors began to play a better game in the final quarter, but by now the damage was done and after only a few minutes, they trailed 45-90.

After four minutes, the Wolves broke 100, with the Warriors yet to reach 50.

The game ended on a high note for the Wolves, with Wayne Robinson setting up Keith Jarrett for a slam on the buzzer, to ecstatic cheers from the home crowd.

"We used close zone defence and the Warriors found it hard to get inside," said coach Jim Smith afterwards.

"They had no serious long shooters and that is what made the difference."

Managing Director Roger Clarke added, "All our lads played well and each made a good contribution to the victory. We have earned our place in the final."
