FIRE crews searched a derelict former cinema in Worcester, this morning, fearing people were trapped in the blazing building.
They were alerted to the fire in St John's by a phone call at 5am.
An ambulance crew stood by, while a police van blocked off the road on the approach from Bull Ring.
But, by 6.30, the fire had been put out and searchers confirmed that no one had been found in the former St John's Cinema.
"The fire seems to have started on the second floor of a three-storey building," a fire brigade spokeswoman said.
"There were four breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a jet sent.
"A full search has been made and all persons have been accounted for."
She said an assessment of the damage would also be carried out later today at the building, which became Zig Zags nightclub after closing as a cinema but is now derelict.
