LEDBURY'S Market Theatre is set to echo to the best songs from the best musicals.

From West End to Broadway is on at the theatre on Saturday and Sunday, April 24- 25, with performances at 8pm.

Ten years ago, four Midlands-based musical theatre actors, who met during a production of Chicago, got together to produce a show that highlighted the best songs from the greatest of the modern musicals.

Now they are playing to packed houses all across the region and sold out on their last visit to the Market Theatre.

From their song books, the quartet selected tunes from Boublil and Schnberg (Les Misrables and Miss Saigon), Stephen Sondheim, arguably America's best modern-day composer, and such home-grown talents as Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, to name but a few.

To these top tunes they added the spice and drama of a theatrical presentation to make it easy on the eye.

From West End to Broadway is not the only top-class musical event to hit the Market Theatre this month.

Tomorrow (Saturday), the 17-piece Malvern Big Band will be paying its own return visit, with the music starting at 8pm.

The band plays an extremely varied mixture of music, ranging from the standards of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn to contemporary big band jazz by composers and arrangers like Sammy Nestico and Kris Berg - and everything in between.

Tickets for both these events are on sale at Ledbury Books and Maps, High Street. Telephone bookings may be made to 01531 633760.
